Before, during and after launch

Product launch support

Launch planning, readiness checks and post-launch tracking for new medicines, medical devices and diagnostics in Kenya.

We prepare a new medicine, medical device or diagnostic for launch in Kenya, coordinate the launch, and track the results afterwards so the plan can be adjusted.

Registration and patient support can be part of the same plan, through our regulatory affairs service and our patient support programmes.

What the service covers

What we cover at each stage.

Before launch

Registration and import
Registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, import permits and labelling, planned and tracked against the launch date.
Pricing and access
Pricing, and how each group of patients is expected to pay: through the Social Health Authority (SHA), private insurers or out of pocket.
Distribution and stock
Choice of distributor, and the first shipment planned and tracked through import and clearance.

At launch

Field and medical teams
Representatives trained, with target lists and approved materials, and meetings for doctors planned with medical input.
Stock in the market
Stock tracked from the distributor to pharmacies and hospitals, so shortages are seen and dealt with early.
Patient support
A patient support programme running from the first prescription, where the product needs one.

After launch

Changes to the plan
Targeting, stock, pricing or patient support adjusted where results fall short.
Wider access
Help with tenders from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), counties and private hospitals, and with hospital medicine lists and private insurer cover not in place at launch.
Safety and renewals
Side effects reported to the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, and changes to the registration and renewals filed on time.
Growth
Plans to reach further counties, channels and East African countries, and later to add newly approved uses or pack sizes.

Questions

Questions we are asked.

How is this different from commercial consulting?

Commercial consulting advises on whether and how to launch, and market intelligence supplies the research. This service prepares the launch, coordinates it and follows it up.

Can you join a launch that is already under way?

Yes. We can start at any stage, or take on only the parts your own team does not cover.

Can you provide the field team?

Yes. We can recruit and employ representatives through our staffing service, and size and target the team through sales force effectiveness.

Does the work follow Kenya's rules on medicine promotion?

Yes. Materials, meetings and field activity are planned within the Pharmacy and Poisons Board's promotion guidelines and the Kenya Association of Pharmaceutical Industry (KAPI) Code of Practice.
